Rated ages 5-8, I have to admit that I bought it for my son who is one to two years below that age group, but considering that the majority of laptops/notebooks sold for young children I've seen at local stores have monochrome LCD displays, this was the only notebook I saw that had vibrant colors that stood out over the rest. The VTech Brilliant Creations Notebook has a colorful 4.5" LCD display! An actual mouse is also included that is connected via a side port (appears to be a phone-jack type port that only accepts the included mouse & nothing else). An animated, talking Penguin appears... She loves it. Matter of fact she took it to school for show and tell today. He seems to be really enjoying it, but only after we gave up on using the mouse. The plug has to be held in the port for the mouse to stay responsive. If you aren't pressing on the jack the mouse either won't work or the plug just falls out of the port. The touchpad is also tricky at first. You have to actually press down as you move your finger across it, unlike actual laptops where you only need to touch gently. Once he figured out the touchpad he has been having lots of fun on it. He can select and complete many of the activities on his own (he is 4 1/2). |
